superfoods rx diet

Ever since I filmed Fit Tv’s Diet Doctor, people have been asking me to review other diet plans and books so i’m going to start trying to squeeze in a few reviews when I have time. I was in LA over the weekend shooting a series of web videos (stay tuned for more information on them) and I worked with Wendy Bazilian, DrPH, RD, the author of The SuperFoodsRx Diet (Rodale 2008). The premise of the diet is that by basing all of your meals around nutrient dense foods, you’ll lose weight and be healthier. I completely agree with this concept and certainly believe eating whole foods in their natural state is much healthier than the processed foods the majority of Americans live on. All of the superfoods are easily accessible and easy to use in recipes and the meal ideas (we filmed a days worth of meals) look wonderful – you feel healthier just looking at them. The only aspect of the diet I don’t 100% agree with is the idea that you need to limit protein servings, especially at dinner, to a deck of cards. If you are eating a low fat or very low fat protein like fish, I think you can be more generous with your servings size. Other than that, I think incorporating SuperFoods into your diet whenever you can is a great idea and cutting back on processed foods will undoubtedly improve your help and may help you lose weight too as these foods tend to low energy density so you can eat more while taking in fewer calories. Feel free to email your comments or feedback if you have read the book! to your health. Dr. Melina
