If you are interested in heart health (and want a little treat for your afternoon tea or coffee), try Metamucil Fiber Wafers (in apple of cinnamon). Each packet contains an impressive 6 grams of fiber, 3 grams of which is heart healthy soluble fiber. Research shows (and the FDA agrees) that a diet rich in soluble fiber, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. In addition, a recent study showed that adding psyllium (the fiber in these wafers) to cholesterol lowering medications known as statins helped lower cholesterol levels even further!
